Forklift Battery Charging Station Safety

Oct 24, 2023

When the battery of an electric forklift is approximately 80% discharged, the forklift operator should return the battery to the charging station. Because charging the forklift battery poses sulfuric acid safety risks, battery charging installations must be located in areas designated for that purpose only, and forklift battery charging station safety should be prioritized.

Creating a Forklift Battery Charging Station
Your forklift battery charging station should have the following supplies and personal protective equipment in case of an emergency:
Face shield, rubber gloves, and aprons for the body
A fifteen-minute flush is provided by an eye wash station located within the charging area.
Neutralizers for electrolyte spills (such as soda ash or baking soda)
Fire protection that has been approved
Protection against forklift damage to chargers
Proper fume ventilation from gassing batteries
Prohibited Items
Furthermore, smoking, open flames, sparks, or electric arcs are not permitted in the charging area. Tools and other metal objects should also be kept away from exposed battery tops.
