Overview and working principle of industrial rocker
A joystick is a relative pointing device; when you move the handle, you move a target on the screen; when you release the grip, you stop the movement of the target. In industrial control applications, the joystick can also act as an absolute pointing device, mapping each position of the grip to a specific position on the screen. It is a physical device that converts the movement of a plastic rod into electronic information that a computer can process.
The joystick has been used in a variety of mechanical equipment, including F-15 fighter jets, excavators and wheelchairs. This article will focus on computer joysticks, but the basic principles of operation are the same for other types of joysticks.
The differences between different joystick technologies are mainly reflected in the amount of information they transmit. The simplest joystick in many early consoles was nothing more than a special electronic switch.
2. Working principle
The basic principle of a joystick is to convert the movement of a plastic rod into electronic information that a computer can process. This basic design consists of a joystick mounted on a plastic base with a resilient rubber housing. The circuit board is mounted in the base under the joystick. A circuit board is made up of "printed wires" that connect several contacts. Then, connect the normal wires from these contacts to the computer.
A printed circuit makes up a simple circuit (the circuit consists of some smaller circuits). These lines only carry current from one contact to the other. When the joystick is in the neutral position, i.e. when you are not pushing the joystick to either side, all but one circuit is broken. Since the conductor materials in each line are not fully connected, no current flows through the circuit.
Each broken section is covered with a simple plastic button with a small metal disc. When you move the joystick in either direction, the joystick squeezes down on one of the buttons, bringing the conductive metal disk into contact with the circuit board.
