Joysticks are a type of control device that consists of a stick that pivots on a base. The joystick controller, also known as a control column and the primary controlling device in aircraft, is a powerful device for high-powered equipment.
Many of us were introduced to joysticks at a young age while playing video games. Joystick controllers operate aerial lifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other aerial devices (rather than video games) and follow a similar work flow.
Based on the initial use in aircraft, the use in aerial devices makes a lot of sense because operators are familiar with the general design for controlling large machines. Surprisingly, the term "joystick" dates back to the early twentieth century.
